Canmore has a new brunch spot that’s quickly becoming a must-visit destination—Bro’kin Yolk. This popular chain, with existing locations in Calgary and Edmonton, just opened its doors in Canmore, and it’s already drawing quite a crowd.
Parking & Opening Hours
Their hours are 8 AM to 2 PM, seven days a week, which makes it perfect for both early birds and those who prefer a leisurely brunch. Parking can be challenging, especially during the busy summer months, there is a decent-sized lot in the plaza that fills up quickly.
Restaurant Atmosphere
We decided to visit on a busy Sunday in August. The restaurant was buzzing with energy, and it looked like there was at least a 30-minute wait for a table. We thankfully checked the website beforehand and saw there was an online waitlist that you can join. It’s a simple process, you join the waitlist online and are given 15 minutes’ notice to confirm once a table becomes available.
The loud atmosphere of the restaurant made it slightly chaotic. The service was on the slower side with little hiccups such as having no water on the table for our meal however, these issues are likely to do with the restaurant being so new.
Despite service issues, the restaurant itself is beautifully designed. Located in The Shops of Canmore plaza on the second floor, Bro’kin Yolk has a prime spot with lots of natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows. The space is airy and bright, creating a pleasant environment even when the noise level is high. There’s also a small patio with three tables outside with stunning views of the Three Sisters and Rundle ranges—an ideal spot for brunch when the weather is good.
The meaning behind the name “Bro’kin Yolk” adds a personal touch to the experience—the chain was founded by two brothers in Alberta.
Bro’kin Yolk Canmore Menu
They have an extensive menu with something to satisfy every breakfast and brunch craving. From eggs benedict to frittatas, breakfast platters, sandwiches, and hash bowls, there’s no shortage of options. They’re known for their Belgian waffles, made from a proprietary recipe, and their hash is hand-cut, twice-fried, and tossed in duck fat—a detail that sets them apart. All of their eggs are free-range omega-3 organic and sourced locally from Countryside Farms, ensuring top-notch quality.
We decided to try two of their standout dishes: the Truffle, Ham & Wild Mushroom Breakfast Poutine and the Chicken & Waffles.
Truffle, Ham & Wild Mushroom Breakfast Poutine: A Gourmet Twist
The Truffle, Ham & Wild Mushroom Breakfast Poutine starts with a bed of crispy, duck fat hash. On top of the hash sit two fast-poached eggs, perfectly cooked with runny yolks that mix nicely with the roasted garlic hollandaise sauce. The sauce is smooth and flavourful, and complements the dish without overpowering it.
The truffle blends well with the wild mushrooms and ham. The dish is finished off with cheese curds, which are fresh, slightly melty, and offer that signature squeaky texture. We opted for the ½ hash and ½ fresh spinach base, a choice I highly recommend, as it balanced the richness of the dish and added a refreshing element.
Chicken & Waffles: A Sweet and Savory Delight
Next up was the Chicken & Waffles, a dish that our server highly recommended, especially given Bro’kin Yolk’s reputation for their homemade waffle recipe. The waffles were light and fluffy with the perfect amount of crisp on the outside, the perfect comforting dish.
The waffle works well with the spiced and fried dark meat chicken. The chicken is tender and juicy, with a flavorful crust that adds a satisfying crunch. A drizzle of maple syrup with the accompanying maple honey hot sauce provides a subtle kick that enhances the savory flavors.
The white chicken gravy on the side is perfect for dipping or pouring over the chicken and waffle. The combination of sweet and savoury makes this dish a standout choice for anyone who loves a good comfort food classic with a twist.
Bro’Kin Yolk – Overall Review
Bro’kin Yolk’s new Canmore location is off to a strong start, with a menu that offers something for everyone and a vibrant atmosphere that’s perfect for a weekend brunch. While the service may still be finding its rhythm, the quality of the food and the overall experience make it a place worth visiting.
Just be sure to take advantage of the online waitlist, especially during peak hours, to save yourself some time. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Bro’kin Yolk is a great addition to Canmore’s dining scene, and I’m looking forward to returning to try more of their delicious offerings.
