On a Sunday in July around 8 pm, we visited the Red Rock Pizza, a local favorite in Canmore, known for its unbeatable mountain views and incredible pizzas. Located at 1005 Cougar Creek Dr, there is no indoor dining here, just an outdoor patio and a small order counter inside which adds to the charm. Ordering to-go is a popular choice for visitors but we decided to stay and enjoy the view.
Restaurant and Atmosphere
The outdoor patio has picnic tables where you have stunning views of the Three Sisters Mountain Range, Grotto, and Lady Macdonald Peak. It’s the perfect spot for a casual meal, and is dog friendly too for those visiting with pets.
They open from 2 pm to 10 pm daily, or until they run out of pizza dough, whichever comes first. The atmosphere is very relaxed and laid-back, with young, friendly and helpful staff working the till.
Red Rock is often mentioned in the top two spots for the best pizza in Canmore and is highly rated on Google with a 4.6 star rating. It’s not uncommon for the phone to be ringing constantly with orders, so they also offer a text your order option too for added convenience. During busy periods the order wait can sometimes be up to 45 minutes but thankfully we got our food within 20.
Food & Menu
They have a “Pizza of the Month” special, and for July, it was the “CULTURE SHOCK,” featuring an intriguing combination of Red Chili Butter, Mozza, Korean Fried Chicken, Kewpie Mayo, Kimchi, Pickled Cucumber, and Sesame Seeds. Although we didn’t order this special, it shows the creative and unique pizza options they offer which keeps people coming back for more.
Our Order: True North and Pazzo Signature Pizzas, and House Salad
We decided to go with the “Date Deal,” a fantastic value that includes two small pizzas and a large salad, easily feeding 2-3 adults. By the end of our meal, we still had a full pizza left, which speaks to the generous portions.
True North Signature Pizza
The first pizza we tried, a best-seller on the menu, was the True North Signature Pizza, with double pepperoni, maple-soaked bacon, pizza sauce, and mozzarella and it’s easy to see why it’s listed as a popular choice. The maple flavor in the bacon paired well with the savory elements and their crust is the perfect balance between thick and thin giving it a chewy yet crispy texture.
Pazzo Signature Pizza
Our second choice was the Pazzo Signature Pizza, that has Italian sausage, onion, jalapeño, fresh arugula, parmesan, chili oil, mozzarella, and pizza sauce. This pizza was just as enjoyable, with the same perfectly cooked crust. The chili oil and jalapeño added a nice kick and you could tell the quality of the ingredients used were fresh.
House Salad
The House Salad consisted of mixed greens, green olives, marinated tomato, red onion, feta, and a house-made dill vinaigrette. The salad portion size was decent for its price and although I personally would have preferred a different dressing, it was still a very enjoyable side to our pizzas.
Final Thoughts
It’s easy to see why Red Rock Pizza is a popular spot in Canmore. With their casual, laid back setting, they offer some of the best pizza around. The friendly service, quality ingredients, and creative menu options make it clear why Red Rock is so highly rated. If you’re in the area, whether you want takeout or to sit on the patio and soak up the views, it’s definitely worth a visit—just be sure to check if they’re still open before you head over, especially on busy days when their pizza dough might sell out!
