Canmore is the birthplace of Rocky Mountain Flatbread. Located on the edge of downtown at 838 10th Street, Canmore AB, they are open for lunch & dinner 7 days a week with daily drinks specials available Monday to Thursday.
Sunday – Thursday: 11.30 am – 9 pm
Friday & Saturday: 11.30 am – 10 pm
We visited their Canmore restaurant on a Saturday in March. Despite being a busy Easter weekend, parking was surprisingly easy to find and plenty of options were available between the free parking spots on 8th Ave and the paid parking along 10th Street. Arriving around 1:30 pm on a sunny day, there was a vibrant buzz around the town.
This family-owned business uses local and organic produce and pride themselves in being 100% nut-free with options and caters to a range of dietary restrictions such as gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options.
The Restaurant
Rocky Mountain Flatbread is popular with the locals as well as those visiting town, and this was evident with the lively atmosphere we were greeted by when we arrived.
Although it was busy, we weren’t left waiting long for a table and our table for two had the perfect view into the restaurant’s open kitchen concept. Watching the pizzas cook in the wood fire oven while you dine really added to the experience.
Although the music was a little on the louder side making conversation challenging at times, there was still an enjoyable upbeat atmosphere in the restaurant.
Service
While the service was efficient and we were attended to quickly, it was lacking the professionalism and warmth we were expecting from a server. However, we were still seated promptly and experienced no delays with our orders.
In between courses, we took advantage of the views by the window taking in the views of the Rundle Range and Ha Ling Peak. The natural light from the windows also creates a spacious feel to the inside of the restaurant.
The Food
To start, we ordered the rocky caesar salad and the chef’s feature soup – roasted cauliflower served with two slices of bread which was rich and full of garlic and fresh herb flavors.
For the main course, we opted for the Bow Valley BBQ Chicken Flatbread and the Beef Pepperoni Flatbread.
Our waitress recommended the Bow Valley BBQ Chicken Flatbread as the fan favorite and it lived up to expectations. While the pizza delivered on flavor, we would have liked for a little more of the signature BBQ sauce.
Beef Pepperoni Flatbread looked and tasted great, there was a good balance of flavors from the beef pepperoni and the mushroom, tomato, and red onion toppings.

Their menu is separated into traditional and artisan flatbread pizzas.
Traditional flatbreads are available in 10 and 13 inches, and the Fig, Bison & Brie is the most popular artisan flatbread choice. Dipping sauces including ranch and BBQ are available for an additional $2.
Their extensive menu has an array of options to choose from, offering pasta, soup, and salads for those wanting something other than a flatbread pizza.

Community
With a farm-to-pizza philosophy, Rocky Mountain Flatbread prioritizes locally sourced ingredients and supports local farmers for their restaurant’s produce. Since 2004 they have supported over 50 local farmers and suppliers.
Through different initiatives including Pizza Making Nights every Sunday evening and fundraising events such as EarthBites Society supporting the local schools and clubs, a sense of community is clearly evident, not to mention their Locals Night on Wednesday with food and drink discounts!
Overall, we had a great experience at Rocky Mountain Flatbread in Canmore and will definitely be back again!
